Towering Northern Giraffe

In the savanna exhibit, Zara, the Northern Giraffe, gracefully towers over her companions. Standing nearly 18 feet tall, Zara is a favorite among children who love feeding her leafy branches during special interactive sessions. Her long, inquisitive tongue and elegant demeanor make every encounter unforgettable.

Zara’s story is one of survival and adaptation. Born in a reserve during a severe drought, she was brought to the zoo to ensure her safety and contribute to the conservation of her species. Zara quickly adjusted to her new environment and became the star of the zoo’s breeding program. Her calm temperament makes her a joy to work with, and keepers often describe her as having a “wise” presence.

One particularly touching moment occurred during a rainy afternoon when Zara was seen gently nuzzling a young giraffe calf in her enclosure, shielding it from the drizzle with her towering body. This maternal instinct has endeared Zara to both keepers and visitors alike, making her a symbol of the gentle strength of giraffes.
